The Gap Between Science and Hardware Engineering
Throughout his career designing sensing instrumentation, Jonathan repeatedly saw brilliant minds hit the same wall. Researchers had breakthrough ideas and critical measurement needs, but to collect their data in the field, they were forced to build custom measurement platforms from scratch. Access to expert resources was always a challenge.
When non-experts in system design want to build a measurement platform themselves there are many challenges: they had to learn embedded firmware, debug noisy wiring, figure out low-power telemetry, and wrestle with raw sensor signal conditioning—skills entirely outside their core domain expertise. The result? Months of lost time, fragile prototype setups, and field failures caused by common hardware design traps that only experienced instrument engineers know how to avoid.
Jonathan realised there had to be a better way: What if researchers could own and direct their solution, but have a platform pre-engineered to safeguard against everyday hardware and software failures?
That question became the blueprint for EDDIE Data Hub.
Decades of Deep Sensing and Field Rigor
EDDIE isn't an off-the-shelf, one-size-fits-all data logger designed in a vacuum. It is built on decades of combined experience across advanced sensor engineering, project facilitation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Jonathan Masters brings deep technical specialisation in the design of sensing instrumentation, for harsh industrial environments. His background guarantees that EDDIE’s core telemetry, sampling routines, and physical interfaces are resilient against real-world electrical noise and physical demands.
Patricia Giang brings an invaluable ability to facilitate research and bridge the communication divide across diverse roles and disciplines. With extensive background across research environments, business development, and stakeholder engagement, Patricia excels at translating complex technical requirements into practical actions. She ensures that scientists, engineers, site operators, and decision-makers are aligned—cutting across role silos to deliver real, seamless project outcomes.
Together, this background means EDDIE handles both the hard engineering behind the scenes—signal conditioning, industrial noise isolation, power management—and the human side of integration, so domain experts can focus on what matters most: their insights and discoveries.
Bridging the Knowledge Gap with Modular Architecture
To solve the friction between custom requirements and reliable execution, we designed EDDIE as a modular ecosystem:
Modular Hardware Stack (Hubs, Pods, Uniprobes, Peas): Instead of forcing teams to solder bespoke circuits or buy expensive, rigid legacy loggers, EDDIE’s architecture lets you snap together the exact sensing interfaces you need while maintaining industrial-grade reliability.
Built-in Guardrails: By abstracting away complex firmware and signal processing traps, EDDIE acts as a bridge. Non-engineers get total ownership over their data collection pipeline.
Purpose-Built Precision: Whether monitoring environmental parameters, agricultural metrics, or industrial slurries, EDDIE offers the accuracy of a custom scientific rig with the plug-and-play simplicity of modern hardware.
Own Your Solution Without Reinventing the Wheel
Sensors and data logging shouldn't be a bottleneck for innovation. By leaning into our deep expertise in sensing solutions, the team at EDDIE Data Hub is proud to give researchers, plant engineers, and innovators full ownership over their monitoring solutions—backed by hardware and support designed to deliver results in the real world.
